Layout, Inking and Coloring

Creating an illustrated book involves several key steps, including layout, inking, and coloring which differs from traditional painting. Here’s a breakdown my process to create a page per week:
1. Layout (Planning the Page)
The layout is the foundation of the comic pages and involves sketching out how each panel will look and how the story will flow. Starting from a novel like "Captain Corelli's Mandolin" was simplifying the work as the book is already providing a well structured storytelling.
2. Inking (Defining and Cleaning Up)
Inking refines the sketches, adds detail, prepare the dialog bubbles places and creates the final line art. This step establishes the visual clarity and style of the page.
3. Coloring (Adding Life and Mood)
Coloring brings the page to life by adding vibrancy, mood, and depth. It involves deciding on color palettes, lighting, and shading. And improve the storytelling by the use of shading to define light and shadow, adding depth and dimension. Use of complementary colors for contrast and visual interest. Add gradients, glows, or overlays for atmospheric depth (e.g., mist, sunset light). Use layers for transparency effects, motion blur, or magical elements.
